Cancer care built around the patient, not only the diagnosis

Prof. Amichay Meirovitz is a specialist in oncology and radiation oncology and Head of the Oncology Division at the Legacy Heritage Cancer Center, Soroka University Medical Center, Beer Sheva. He is a tenured Professor of Oncology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and previously an associate professor at the Hebrew University–Hadassah School of Medicine.

He is recognised nationally and internationally as an expert in prostate cancer, bladder cancer and urinary tract cancers, and in spacer insertion procedures to prepare for precise radiation therapy for prostate cancer — surgeries he performs in the operating rooms at Ramat Aviv Medical Center. He is also a specialist in brachytherapy for head and neck tumours, including cancers of the lip, tongue and palate.

He trained in oncology at Hadassah Ein Kerem, where he was awarded a professorship and served as head of the focused radiation unit, and completed a 3-year fellowship in radiation oncology that combined clinical training and research at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor — giving him a distinctive foundation in both patient care and research. At Hadassah he also headed the Center for Stereotactic and Targeted Radiation Therapy before moving to Soroka.

Alongside clinical work he leads research on radiation biology, breast cancer and neuroendocrine tumours, has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers, serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cancer Discovery, and teaches medical students and residents.
