Cancer care built around the patient, not only the diagnosis

Prof. Amichay Meirovitz is a board-certified specialist in both medical oncology and radiation oncology, and is the Chairman of The Legacy Heritage Oncology Center & Dr. Larry Norton Institute at Soroka University Medical Center, Be'er Sheva. He is a tenured Professor of Oncology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and was previously an associate professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

He is recognised nationally and internationally as an expert in prostate cancer, bladder cancer and urinary tract cancers, and in spacer insertion procedures to prepare for precise radiation therapy for prostate cancer — surgeries he performs in the operating rooms at Ramat Aviv Medical Center. He is also a specialist in brachytherapy for head and neck tumours, including cancers of the lip, tongue and palate.

He trained in medical oncology at Hadassah Ein Kerem, followed by a 3-year fellowship in radiation oncology at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor. The fellowship consisted of clinical and laboratory training, thus giving him a distinctive foundation in both patient care and research. Upon returning to Hadassah Medical center, he headed the Focused and Stereotactic Radiotherapy unit, before moving to his current position as chairman at Soroka Medical center.

Prof. Meirovitz is an avid researcher and internationally recognised for his work on breast, prostate, head & neck and pancreatic cancer treatment resistance and how to overcome it; radiation biology; animal modelling for radiation treatment; neuroendocrine tumours; and epidemiological studies. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Biomedicines. He also lectures and trains medical students and residents.
